Dal is nutritious and sustainable food for future

Dear Readers,
Welcome to “ Dal On The Table”.
The United Nations ‘designates specific days, weeks, years and decades as occasions to mark particular events or topics in order to promote, through awareness and action, the objectives of the Organization.’
And who could have imagined that pulses would someday find such a recognition! In regarding pulses as ‘nutritious seeds for a sustainable future’, the United Nations, led by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), proclaimed the year 2016, as the International Year of Pulses (IYP) and three years later, in 2019, it declared 10 February as the World Pulses Day to increase public awareness of its nutritional benefits .
The British Dal Festival held on 10 February, 2018, marked the first United Nations World Pulse Day ‘in recognition of the contribution pulses make to health, nutrition, food security, biodiversity and combating climate change’.
Pulses form an essential part of indigenous cuisine in most countries and these ‘tiny, multi-coloured seeds have been one of nature’s nutritious foods since time immemorial’! Dal, besides being nutritious and economical and easy to cook, adds real magic to your table in terms of its representation as a savoury or sweet dish.
Your suggestions are very valuable. Please help us to build up this blog successfully.
