Moong dal

Moong dal is available in the market in three forms:  

Whole moong dal with the skin is sabut moong in Hindi and Green gram in English. 

Split with the skin on, is Chilka moong/ Green split gram. 

The split or whole, without the skin is moong dal /  yellow lentil in English.

Green gram has beautiful olive green skin.  It is highly nutritious and easily to digest.

It has a sweet and nutty flavour. It is versatile and used in many sweet and savoury dishes.

Scientific name:   Vigna radiata

Food value:    Moong dal contains the highest plant protein, fiber and important vitamins and minerals. Spouted moong contain fewer calories but have more antioxidants and amino acids.
