Channa dal

Channa is available in the market in two forms: whole with the skin and split without the skin.

Split without the skin is channa dal in Hindi.  The whole with the skin is known as kala/Desi channa in Hindi and Bengal gram in English.  It belongs to the chickpeas family.

It is nutritious and has a nutty flavour.

Scientific name:  Cicer arietinum
